Selection process

Call for articles: selection and evaluation

MIDAS adopts a system of call for papers. Submissions are sent to Editors (at any given moment), and external specialists (see scientific committee) undertake a peer-review selection process. Its procedures are as follows:

  • MIDAS verifies if the article submitted is original, and checks for plagiarism using automated software and internet research; Plagiarism in its different forms is unacceptable;

  • Editors analyse the relevance of the submitted article and its adequacy to the journal’s profile and guidelines. For thematic issues of MIDAS, the coordinator or organizer is responsible for the first selection of submission;

  • Articles then follow the peer-review process. Articles are sent in double blind review to two specialists/referees from the scientific committee, who in accordance with an evaluation form decide on the submission’s suitability for publication. In case of a split decision, Editors undertake a third evaluation;

  • Referee evaluations are forwarded to the submission authors to undertake the necessary changes. At this moment, authors of submissions not accepted are informed;

  • After the necessary modifications have been undertaken, referees receive them for validation;

  • Editors finally review articles for more detailed analysis concerning, for example, grammatical errors and other formal aspects in order to maintain the quality of presentation;

  • Final decisions are emailed to authors no longer than 6 months after submission.

MIDAS accepts articles that demonstrate a good theoretical frame, critical reflection, innovation and originality. Taking in consideration an article’s structure, the following criteria will be considered: abstract (clarity, objectivity, adequacy); introduction (clear definition of the study and objectives, methodologies adequacy); theoretical framework (structure, coherency, quality and scientific accuracy); conclusions (consistency of findings regarding the objectives set, appropriate recommendations); bibliography (references update, and state of the art of the theme); writing (clarity and quality); complementary material: images/illustrations/tables/schemes (quality, accuracy and adequacy); article dimension (adequacy); relevance, originality and creativity.

Call for thematic issues: submission, selection and evaluation
